Believe it or not!

In Chapter 4 The Classical Period we learn about the termmeans of persuasion” which include logos, ethos, and pathos. This cartoon is a great example that relates to chapter 4. Logos refers to the logic behind someone’s reasoning. This is represented with the first image of the doctor introducing what field he works in. Ethos refers to what makes a person credible. This is displayed through the second image where since we now know he is a doctor in dental surgery his recommendation of the Klean toothpaste is valid. Pathos is what appeals to the audience and is represented in the third image where the doctor claims the toothpaste keeps your teeth clean.

This cartoon relates to my life because I have also been convinced by a dentist to get something that I didn’t really need. I used to have such sensitive teeth and the dentist I was going to recommended flurioide toothpaste. All toothpaste has fluoride for the most part but the one she was offering was a higher dose which supposedly would help my teeth. I bought the toothpaste from her for $25 and got played. It didn’t help any more than plain Sensodyne did. Since she was a cosmetic dentist I believed her and fell for “means of persuasion”.
